In this day and age, I find that many opinions are void of common sense.

In my analysis, I always try to recognize reality, history, and common sense. Too often, politics becomes one sided, because one side wants to impose their ideology over everyone.

Our founding fathers did not establish our system of government to impose ideologies over its people. They created a system that is governed by law. Laws that protect the people's rights to live any way they choose as long as it does not violate the rights of others to do the same.

I stand for "freedom" and "liberty" and right for all of us to live for ourselves. Not to "live" and "serve" the government for some greater purpose defined by those in power.

At War from Within PDF Print Email

Over the past year I have been following all sides of the political debate and I have finally come to the conclusion: we at war from within.  Ideology has become so strong from both sides of the argument that commonsense and liberty has been tossed to the side of the road of American life.  Recent elections have demonstrated that a majority of Americans are fed up with both liberal and conservative extremes.

In America today the liberal extreme has been pushing for more government control and programs to level what they feel has been an unfair system.  On the other side, the strong conservatives are against that and are opposed to the pro-choice movement as well as other social movements.   Many Americans are tired of these age old debates and just want government to work.  For decades the government has been in a tug of war between ideologies which have produced an unproductive and wasteful system that has failed to make anything better.

There are several things that are contributing to this problem, but the one I want to discuss is the unrealistic expectation for our political leaders to be perfect in every way.  For example, many conservative and...

Health Care- What Now? PDF Print Email
Written by
Tuesday, 26 January 2010 03:30
With the recent turn of events it appears that the health care bill that has been fast tracking its way into our lives has stalled.  The question then becomes “what now?â€Â  Since some of my previous writings on this subject, I have come to some conclusions about the direction we should take based on recent personal experience.

It is my belief that in order to get the cost down on health care we have to increase competition and put the power of choice in the hands of the American people.  If we can drive down the cost of health care insurance, more Americans will be able to afford insurance.  Right now far too many Americans seek treatment in hospital emergency rooms and are unable to pay the bill.  Those costs have to be absorbed and the cost of treatment is adjusted upward to cover those costs. The result ends up costing us in two ways; higher medical bills and health insurance.  Here is my ten step plan to fixing the health care system.

1)      Allow health insurance to be sold across state lines.  This would increase competition and allow more choices to consumers.

2)      Tort reform.  We have to put a stop to frivolous lawsuits. ...

Scott Brown “Wins†Massachusetts Senate Seat PDF Print Email
Written by

Liberal pundits rallied against Scott Brown and some even began trying to down play the importance of this election.  One has to realize that in the state of Massachusetts Democrats outnumber Republicans three to one and Ted Kennedy held that Senate seat for decades.  This is a monumental defeat for the Democrats.  There is no question that Massachusetts predominantly supports the Democrat party.   So why did so many Democrats vote for the Republican?  Some would have you believe that Coakley just did not run a very effective campaign. Horse pucky!

When diehard Democrats or Republicans abandon their party to vote for the opposing party, there is a reason.  In this case, the people of Massachusetts were sending a message to Washington.  This was a protest vote against what the Obama administration is doing regarding health care and many have said so.  The Democrats have been ramming this health care bill through in secrecy and without bi-partisan support using coercion and bribes.  The fine people of Massachusetts are fed up just as the rest of America is about how this administration is proceeding forward against the will of the people.

FEMA Imposes Flood Insurance on Millions PDF Print Email
Written by
Saturday, 16 January 2010 20:47
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is now going to require any homeowner that has a loan backed by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac to purchase flood insurance if their home is located in an area that has the possibility of flooding.  Keep in mind that Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac backs 50% of all the mortgages in America, so this will generate millions of dollars in premiums.  Premiums could range anywhere from $500 to a couple of thousands of dollars per insured.  Now the kicker, FEMA has conveniently redrawn/reinterpreted the flood maps to reflect a 1% chance of your area of flooding in 100 years.  FEMA argues that if you live in one of these areas, you have a 26% change of flooding during the course of a 30-year mortgage because  "changing weather patterns, erosion, and development" can affect floodplain boundaries.

Homeowner’s insurance does not cover flooding, so it would be a good idea to carry that type of insurance if you live in an area that has the likelihood of flooding.  However, it never has been mandatory.  Understandably, mortgage companies require you carry homeowners insurance.  They want to protect their investment and I could...

The Republican Party - Direction or Distraction PDF Print Email
Written by

Newsmax recently published a story regarding the leader of the Republican National Committee- Michael Steele (link).  Based on this article and others it is becoming apparent that he has lost the support of many within his own party.  Steele seems unsure whether the party is ready to govern.  When asked by Hannity, what the answer is he replied, “I don’t know.â€Â  The writer for Newsmax, Ronald Kessler stated “If Steele isn’t sure Republicans are ready to govern, one thing is for sure: Steele is not ready to lead the Republican Party.† One thing is certain, if the Republican Party does find direction, their hopes as well as those of many Americans will never be realized.

I am a realist, and based on what I have seen, the Republican Party has no leader.  A leader that can pull the party together and stand firm on the principles our founding fathers put in place is, someone like Ronald Reagan.  The Republican Party is fractured and many of them are no different from the Democrats.  Many hope that the 2010 elections will shift the power balance in the House and Senate more favorably to the Republicans.   Steele has said that he does not...

Government Failure and the Terror Over Detroit PDF Print Email
Written by

I was in Detroit visiting family and friends during the Christmas season when a terrorist attempted to blow up an American aircraft returning home.  Since that time I have listened to all sorts of ideas to prevent this type of attack in the future.  Some of these ideas are good and some are just plain stupid.  The Heritage Foundation, an organization I respect released an article (below) with some recommendations that has some hits and misses.  I will analyze each of these ideas below (in bold) and apply commonsense to the matter, which seems to be escaping most of these so called experts.

The Heritage Foundation’s James Carafano, an expert in national security affairs, suggests five "common-sense initiatives" that would immediately improve our counter-terrorism practices and help to thwart future attacks before they even start.

Improve communication between the State and Homeland Security Departments. There needs to be more consistent and effective interagency communication so that security gaps and threats can be properly identified and addressed, particularly when it comes to issuing visas. Visa security officers should be stationed at every...

Fixing Our Economy- Ronald Reagan Style PDF Print Email
Written by
Tuesday, 08 December 2009 01:19
When Ronald Reagan was elected he recognized that our taxing policy was killing our economy.  He set out to reduce the tax burden on everyone and we started the longest economic expansion in our history.  Today, the liberals believe that spending and taxing will grow our economy, but that just is not so. Taxing wealth kills job creation.  I have come to the conclusion that we need to change our taxing policy so that Americans are encouraged to grow wealth and make good decisions.

Conservatives believe that everyone should be responsible for their own destiny and if they make bad choices they have to suffer the consequences.   I would agree with this, except that their bad choices affect all of us financially.  Health Care, for example costs all of us more because many people cannot afford or choose not to afford health care insurance.  If they do not pay their bills the costs go up for the rest of us.  In addition, those who would buy insurance get priced out of the market. The same thing happens with auto insurance.  Most of us pay for uninsured motorist coverage because many do not have insurance so we end up paying for our coverage and theirs.  Our...

Is It Time For a Strong Third Party? PDF Print Email
Written by
Monday, 30 November 2009 19:26
President Obama’s approval ratings have dropped below 50%. Everyday more and more Americans are becoming disenchanted with his policies.  It is becoming very likely that many Congressmen and Representatives will be voted out of office in 2010.  The question is the Republican Party espousing the correct polices?

Over the past decade the Republican Party has done a poor job controlling government spending.  All too often instead of rejecting bad policy they purpose and vote for a lighter version.  Even with the current health bill, I truly wonder where they stand.  I get the feeling that if the public option and abortion was taken out of the bill some would probably vote for it.  Republicans have purposed increasing competition by allowing health insurance to be sold across state lines and tort reform, but these measures have been ignored.

Typically, the independent voters swing the elections to one of the two dominate parties.  Over the years, some say voting for a third party divides the Republican vote and puts the Democrat in office.  However, in the last presidential election many of these people voted for Obama.  Based on current...
